The Art of Negotiation
The art of good business is being a good middleman, and the art of being a good middleman is being a good negotiator.
In poker each and every hand you play in is a mini negotiation and sale – a mini opportunity for you to practice your negotiations skills, and to gain more information from the opponent you are playing against.. The key in poker is to play the man not the cards.
What this translates to is the ability to deal individually with people when you are negotiating with them. Everyone is different. Everyone has different personalities, styles and mannerisms. You have to not only pick up on them, but have to learn how to deal with them. You have to know how to change gears and strategies, and whether to be passive or aggressive, ruthless or sweet.
In essence poker teaches you that negotiation is a process, one that takes place with different people at different times, and one never to be rushed or underestimated.
